使われ方
stand down as [position]
[役職]を辞任する（asの後に具体的な役職名が続く形。政治家や役員が公の場で表明する際によく使われる。）
be forced to stand down
辞任に追い込まれる（圧力や不祥事により、本人の意思とは裏腹に地位を退かざるを得ない状況で用いられる。）
類義語との違い
- step down: stand downとほぼ同義だが、step downはより一般的で日常的な文脈でも使われる。stand downの方が、より格式高く、公的な手続きを伴う辞任という響きが強い。
