外見を別のものに変えて、本来の正体や真実を覆い隠すこと。物理的な変装から、感情や意図を隠す抽象的な偽装まで幅広く使われます。
使われ方
disguise oneself as A
Aに変装する（主語がAの姿をして正体を隠す際によく使われます。）
disguise A as B
AをBに見せかける（Aという本来の姿をBという別のものに変えて隠す構造です。）
disguise one's feelings
感情を隠す（本音を表面に出さないという文脈で用います。）
類義語との違い
- conceal: 単に「隠す・見えなくする」という事実を指します。disguiseは「別のものに変えて（偽って）隠す」という能動的な工夫のニュアンスが強いです。
